Taking performance to the next level

Basketball

In sports, the level of specific skill performance seperates a champion from the rest of the field. In baskebtall, the better a player can dribble, shoot or pass, the better his or her chance of success. But those sport-specfific skills are minimized if the player is in poor physical conditioning.

Refining basketball skills will only get you so far unless you also develop the physical base for performiong those skills repeatedly, against physical opponents, throughout the course of a game and season. Athletic Precision can help you increase your vertical jump, lateral court speed, and straight away explosion. Thousands of high school and college players can shoot and dribble as well as the pros; however, they typically fall short of the pros in conditioning, or athleticism. By that, they lack the speed, power, agility, coordination, sttrength, and endurance needed to compete against players on a higher level.

Hexagon Drill - Quickness
This drill was developed by the US Tennis Association as part of their player assessment program. It is useful for all kinds of athletes in different sports including basketball to measure their agility, quickness and co-ordination. This test challenges you to move with maximum speed while maintaining balance.

1. Mark out a hexagon (6 sides) on the floor with tape or chalk. Each side should be 24 inches long with a 120 degree angle. Avoid hard surfaces such as concrete.

2. Stand inside the hexagon opposite one of the sides. Keeping your feet together, jump across the side you are facing and then immediately back into the middle of the hexagon.

3. As soon as you land jump over the next side of the hexagon. Continue until you have completed 3 full revolutions of the shape. You can go either clockwise or counterclockwise.

4. Have someone time you and compare this test to so the next time you can beat your next testing day.
